Meijer was founded as Meijer's in Greenville, Michigan, by Hendrik Meijer, a Dutch immigrant. Meijer was a local barber who entered the grocery business during the Great Depression. His first employees included his 14-year-old son, Frederik Meijer, who later became chairman of the company. The current co-chairmen, brothers Hank and Doug Meijer, are Hendrik's grandsons. After studying trends in the grocery industry, Meijer was among the first stores to offer self-service shopping and shopping carts. He also offered staple items, such as vinegar, at bargain prices.

If you are going to operate a pharmacy you should stock medications. I went to my physician and she sent a prescription to the Meijer pharmacy in Machesney park, il. Went to pick it up in the morning and was told it would take about 45 min to fill it. Left and came back at 4:30 pm and was told it had to be ordered and would not be in until Monday. When you get a new prescription the Dr. Expects you to start it right away not 3 days later. This has happened to me several times in the last 6 month's. . add more space to store meds. This is ridiculous.

The doctor called in the prescription about 2, we arrived at 4:45 it was not ready, said it would be an hour, we came back about 80 minutes later they said 15-20 minutes, we came back 25 minutes later and they said it would be another 20... fine... 20 minutes later they told us another 25! I had to demand that they fill it now. It ended up taking them 2.5 hours. And way longer if you count when the doc called it in. If they were just honest and said they were way backed up and would be a few hours we would of been way more understanding. My daughter was very sick and tired and needed to go home.
